NEW GUINEA MAN WITH SPEAR

Up on the New South Wales Coast on holiday I dropped into a local outdoor cafe for a coffee. In front of me was a photo of this particular work which to me is raw and primal. In New Guinea there is still tribal warfare in which people still spear each other in some circumstances.
I took a photo of the image and went back to the studio. An image as interesting as this doesn't come along very often. I added a spear which I thought was appropriate.   The colours in the composition I have kept true to the reference. The work is 57 cm x 39 cm on Arches paper. Unframed.
